Frequently Asked Questions
Should I do private training or group classes?
There are pros and cons to each option.
-
Private training is individualized for your dog.
-
This allows the trainer to focus on specific behaviors or needs that your dog has.
-
-
Private training works around your schedule. You don't even have to be home.
-
Group classes are cheaper than private training.
-
Group classes can be a good way to socialize and expose your dog to other dogs.
-
This can help the dog learn proper social behaviors.
-
Why train at home?
Training at home has many advantages.
-
Many problem behaviors, such as destructive or boredom behaviors, separation anxiety, and fence fighting are only seen in the home.
-
Training at home clearly establishes what is acceptable behavior. Whether it's a new puppy or a family pet of 5 years, establishing rules and boundaries for your dog allows them to live a happier, more contented life. If they know what is expected of them, they can stay out of trouble. This makes life easier for everyone.
-
It allows more freedom for you. You don't have to worry about dropping the kids off at soccer, ballet, and running late to training class. I come to your house and work with your dog. Life is hectic enough without trying to get to puppy class. I work around your schedule to find a time that is convenient for you!
Can you fix my dog?
I work with you to find a solution that fits both you and your dog. (This means your behavior might have to change too).
-
My consult looks at behaviors you want to change or are unhappy with.
-
I also make a list of tricks or new behaviors you want your dog to learn.
-
I make a training plan that will best accommodate you and your dog.
-
Then we go to work. Correcting negative behavior takes time and consistency. (This means you have to practice with your dog). I will give you the tools you will need to correct the behaviors you don't like.
My cute little puppy has turned into a monster! What can I do?
Puppies are wonderful and cute. They are also a lot of work and energy. Taking the time now to teach your puppy positive behaviors will save you from lots of negative behaviors in the future. Establishing rules and boundaries at an early age ensures a well behaved and polite adult dog.
-
It is much easier to teach them what they CAN do versus what they shouldn't do.
-
Teaching simple behaviors as a puppy can make adult life much more fun for the entire household.
I have tried other training classes and nothing has worked. Why is your method different?
My method is different because I look at you and your dog in your home environment. I work with you and your dog separately and together to give you the tools you need to create positive behaviors in your dog. Each dog has their own individualized training program to help them meet your goals.
